Lavish, luxurious, ornate, over the top…

These are words not often used to describe Colorado weddings. So we were ecstatic when Calluna Events asked us to collaborate on their recent “Modern Marie Antoinette” styled shoot and 10 year anniversary celebration. The inspiration was exciting, the venue breath-taking and the list of vendors totally impressive.

Special thanks to Frances Photography & Tess Pace Photography for the lovely images.

Modern black and white letterpress invitation with custom calligraphy

Recently, we had the pleasure of working on a very special project with local calligrapher Kelle McCarter of DesignsGirl. I nearly melted when this man, Christopher, walked in the studio and said he was throwing a surprise 20th anniversary party for his wife. How sweet is that?! He was looking for a loose, even messy, hand-written style to be incorporated into an otherwise minimalistic design. We had so much fun collaborating with Kelle and Christopher to create this bold ensemble — save the dates, invitations and thank you notes — featuring jet black ink, chipboard and charcoal gray envelopes lined with a vintage wedding photo of the couple!

Calluna Events Open House Party

Posted by SWEET

We are thrilled to welcome Calluna Events to our North Boulder neighborhood and were honored when they asked us to create the invitations for their open house party. After printing their new letterpress business cards earlier this year, we were excited to collaborate with Heather and her team once again.

We wanted to create invitations that would show off Calluna’s chic new brand as well as introduce some of the fun details that guests would see when they arrived. The custom die cut shape of the cards was inspired by a mirror in the space and prepared guests for some classy fun. The grey ink and envelopes lent the same air of modern sophistication which presents itself upon entering Calluna’s new office and the chevron envelope liners were a nod to the big tufted ottoman that sits in the center of the room.

Here is the finished invitation along with some shots of the space that inspired them:

Now, on to the party! Memorable events are often the effort of many people collaborating. While the event was Calluna’s, vendors from all over Colorado came to make it beautiful and let their collective hair down for some low-key, high-beauty congratulations and welcome.

As people arrived, they were greeted by round balloons, smiling faces and fresh styling by Mile High Style. Seasonal florals surprised from every surface thanks to Brighter Day Floral Design. Visitors were invited to sample savory food from Catering by Design and tempted by artistically rendered dessert from Tee & Cakes. Boulder Wine Merchant provided some bubbly refreshment to match the mood while Pekoe Sip House offered beautifully packaged tea with which to wash everything down.

As if the setting wasn’t beautiful enough, everything was accented by the multi-hued outfits guests wore. The kaleidoscope effect created by colorful dresses and various textures served to parallel the way in which so many vendors came together to make this event a fun, creative collaboration.

Connie Dai Photography was kind enough to take these beautiful photographs of the evening.  Take a look, be inspired, and get ready for the creative energy of Calluna Events to knock you off your feet.

(And a warm welcome to Calluna’s lovely neighbors: Tess Pace PhotographyK Hodge Films and One Hitched Lane. We look forward to collaborating with you all again soon!)

sammys-first-birthday-party
It’s hard to believe it’s been a year since our baby man Sammy was born. There are really no words to express how profoundly he has changed our lives and how grateful we are for him every single day.

So for his first birthday, we kinda decided to go all out. It started, of course, with the invitation…

first-birthday-letterpress-carnival-belly-band

Three color letterpress, hand illustrated carnival tent with whimsical garlands, grass green envelope and a coral belly band. From there, the party just followed suit….

Hand-sewn garlands for the tent and bunting for the smash cake (Elana’s Pantry almond flour carrot cake – super healthy and SO delicious), Lillabee gluten-free cupcakes in colorful polka dot paper cups,  avocado and sweet potato frosting (to compliment the color scheme, of course) and even a fedora with matching “one” badge for the guest of honor.

What a day and what a year. We love you so much, Samuel!

3 Reasons to Celebrate

Posted by SWEET

2010 was a big year for us. In June, we moved into a new studio which is big enough to house both SWEET letterpress & design and our sister design studio, Spark & Flourish Creative.  So we named it Sweet SPARK design + letterpress studio and decided to throw a party in September to celebrate the move, the union of the brands and the 3rd birthday of SWEET.

First step – invitation design. We settled on a tri-fold piece featuring a hand drawn three and four color letterpress printing. Woot woot!

The party was a blast –  a good crowd and a great chance to sit back and enjoy all the hard work over the last few months. Thanks to all that attended (and thanks to Maureen of Sullivan Studios for these great party shots!)

Happy Birthday 2 Us!

Wow, am I the worst blogger ever, or what? It’s been over 2 months since my last confession, I mean blog entry. It has also been over a month since the SLP birthday party which I meant to tell you about ages ago. Sigh. Better late then never, right?

Well, it was just over two years ago that we booked our first really real letterpress job. So on October 23rd, we celebrated turning 2 with an open studio event.  It was a lot of work getting the studio into “party mode” but it was well worth it!  We had a  stroll down memory lane as we pulled out samples of past jobs and strung them up around the room. We installed fresh track lighting and had beautiful fresh flowers from our friends and neighbors Brighter Day Floral.  I was especially proud to be wearing a hand-painted SLP shirt, created by our talented friend Summer, of Summer House Studios as well as an amazing corsage sent by the sweet peeps at Wordshop in Denver.

Matthew had the press running and each guest left with a commemorative “Happy Birthday” card.  The guests did some early holiday shopping and we gave away a bunch of prizes including a portrait package from fabulous photographer Maureen Sullivan (Sullivan Studios), another neighbor from the Nobo hood. The playlist was just right and there was carrot cake for all. What more could you ask for?

mwfa-quick-drawIn August, Mary Williams Fine Arts hosted the first “Quick Draw” in Boulder County. This timed painting event featured 40 artists who were challenged to create an original piece of art in 90 minutes on an amazing South Boulder estate.  Once the art was finished, there was a silent auction of the paintings to benefit Boulder’s Carriage House Community Table. We were happy to take part in this amazing and elegant charity event. We designed the event’s branding, website and invitations, and enjoyed every moment of working with Mary and her fabulous team. The invitation featured a 2 color letterpress cover and offset printed interior done by NSO Press in Denver. We used a recycled felt finish stock and lovely gold envelopes to complement the classic design and achieve the elegant, late summer feel.

hills

Twas a quiet summer, blog-wise, but now it’s fall and we’re back in action!  Last month we had the privilege of working with HILLS, a local non-profit committed to providing recreation and vacation programs to the developmentally disabled. They were planning a fund-raiser/wine tasting and asked Sweet Letter Press to help out with the invitations, which we happily did. The event was last weekend at a lovely home tucked in the hills  of Golden – it was a great success and a lot of fun. Thanks HILLS!

parasols

When I found out that an unexpected friend was expecting, the girls and I started brainstorming ideas for a shower.  Since the idea of this independent, workin’ girl transitioning into being a mom seemed like quite a journey, we thought a far away theme would be fitting.

Sweet Letter Press created the imprintable invitations featuring brightly colored letterpress parasols.  The hostess with the mostest made the kimono cookies and painted the paper lanterns.
